Niccodemus visits Jesus
Gospel According to St.John
3.1-2.
Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews.He came to see Jesus by night and said to him."Rabbi we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God."
Here we find a man full of wisdom and wealth of the world coming to Jesus who was a prophet, Messiah,a charismatic personality and with many other mysterious aspects, according to Jews.Nicodemus however was a dissatisfied person.His knowledge or wealth could not make him happy.He was in search of the Ultimate Truth.He was afraid to meet Jesus in public because of his stature and level in the society.Still he had understood the mystery behind Jesus and so he came to meet him.Th point is that he wanted to learn from a Master who could provide the answer to his problems of dissatisfaction and misery.His learnings did not yield any fruits.Jesus was emerging as a star in those times by performing miracles and doing many acts which could not be done by a normal person.This was another reason that attracted Niccu to Jesus.He had the humility and simplicity to acknowledge Jesus as the Man of God even though it was under the cover of darkness.
This is the trait that many of us miss these days.We believe in our knowledge and achievements and continue to live under the illusions of world least caring about the eternal knowledge.The Teachings of Jesus is unparalleled in the history of teachings that we get in the world.There are many other teachings like that of Socrates, Confucius, Buddha, Muhammad and Sree Krishna.The everlasting value and the eternity contained in the teachings make one simply purified and purged.It is not that other teachings have no divine value.They are also taught by people belonging to other cultures and other traditions.Prophet Muhammed came out with the Quran in the context of Arabia.Gita is a beautiful hymn that exhorts one to be with God.There are no contradictions in these and other similar teachings.Jesus stands apart in his life and the sacrifice he made on the Cross for the sins of the world.He loved the people so much for God that he wanted to redeem the people by laying down his life.The crucifixion and death later brought resurrection to Him that he was the most glorified of all.The simple assent that we give to Him earn us unsurpassed gains.
