The House of Worship


Gospel According to John


4.20-22


"Our ancestors worshipped on this mountain,but you say that the place where people must worship is in Jerusalem". Jesus said to her,"Woman believe me, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem."


Here we find Jesus teaching us the way of true worship.One of the practices followed from time immemorial is that we choose a place to worship God.We construct a beautiful building with lots of architecture and decorations and dedicate it to God.And we keep the place sacred and sanctified.It is never used for any other purpose.The place is called the house of God.Similarly the woman is telling Jesus that her ancestors were worshipping on the mountain.That is true.Mountain is a rising place where the presence of God can be felt immediately and it is easy to raise our heart and head to God.Jesus does not contradict this.And He speaks of a loftier place in Jerusalem specially constructed to worship God.The place of worship is always important and it is always significant.The hose of worship is to be kept alive and set apart so that the the Creator finds a place through the efforts of man.

Overcoming Casual tendencies

Gospel According to John 5.2-5 "Now in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a pool, called in Hebrew Bethzaitha,which has five porticoes.In these lay many invalids-blind,lame and paralyzed.One man was there who was ill for thirty eight years." Here we find a man who has been ill and suffering for so many years.What could be the reason for this?A man suffering alone and uncared by none for so may years!It is really surprising for a man who leads a fast and hectic life.There are two ways to see this incident.One is that we conveniently and negligently ignore our own state.To say the least we are pathetically casual and lazy in certain crucial matters of our life.We just don't care and we pull on.This is a major fault that we are committing in the eyes of God.Some do not care about their health, some about their education, some about their near and dear ones and some about God and church services.This callous way of doing things make us a pathetic human being.We have to find...

Jesus Heals

Gospel According to John 5.6-7 "When Jesu saw him lying there and knew that he had been there a long time, he said to him , "Do you want to be made well?" The sick man answered him ," Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; and while I am making my way , some one else steps down ahead of me."
